Innovation Delivered

Simulation of flow of fluids in reservoirs is critical to the long-term production and economy of reservoirs.

Modelling and simulating flow in reservoirs are challenging tasks. To properly represent the structure of a reservoir, a reservoir model will often have to be relatively complex.  Reservoirs in many parts of the world cover several square kilometers yet the reservoir vertical thickness may be only a few meters.  Geologic model grid blocks are often 10 - 50 meters in the horizontal direction and perhaps only 0.1 - 1 meter in the vertical direction. Traditionally, reservoir simulators did not cope well with such detailed models, and upscaling was (and still is) a key part of a traditional modelling & simulation workflow. Over the past decade major advancements have been made in academia and industry to improve upon the model building process and the complexity and precision of which reservoirs can be simulated.  As a consequence, grid block sizes keep decreasing.  Furthermore, geometrical complexity is increasing substantially as recent simulators rely on multi-scale unstructured grids.

HueSpace already provides the industry's fastest hundred+ million cell unstructured grid visualization technology, with full real-time ability to "slice and dice" simulation grids based on simulated properties as well as connectivity.  In-house, proprietary tools have been built using HueSpace for these purposes.

Our continued innovation doesn't end here. Full life-cycle modelling and stochastic simulation of assets will further drive the need to rethink the tools that users need. As reservoir simulations exceed geologic scale, the reservoir engineering domain will require software tools that are fundamentally different from today's products.
